April 29, 2008:

Roughly 10 years ago (give/take a month), Chick Maggot first played to an audience. Since that time, we have made few accomplishments as a band, but I am not upset. You see, all of the alienation, aborted records and canceled tours turned out to be a gift; it allowed music to turn completely into a means to send a message to the world that I couldn't really do in any other interesting way.

So, the "band" has obviously been in a serious state of evolution since 2002. The latest batch of music was to mark the point at which we stopped pretending to be anything but a political statement. A fun, head-bobbing, naive and, maybe, laughable political statement. I was writing songs last summer and feeling pretty good about them. I had thought that the record could be out right now. In true Chick Maggot style, though, things didn't work out.

I knew Scott didn't want much to do with this project already, Ted was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with my brand of anti-war ideology, and the studio seemed to have little interest in being associated with my uncompromising "vision". I don't blame them! I'm becoming unmistakably veganarchist, which might be a little scary to the rest of the world. Regardless, this was also a gift in that it forced me to re-evaluate the whole process. I stopped writing and started thinking, started realising that this next record is going to be something that happens when it happens.

So where are we? Weeeellll, Ted sounds like he will find time between Hot Business shows to drum on this record (except probably on the song or songs that he objects to hahah); I'm going to make Scott sing or something (don't tell him yet); and I plan to recruit like-minded musicians and "musicians" to flesh things out. Things feel good, so I'm back to slowly writing songs. I bet you can hardly wait to hear them!

Until then, be nice to each other!

-Roy

P.S. Stephan DuVal used Be My MJ Watson for his Big Rock Eddies entry. The band finds the possibly of our song helping sell beer to be priceless.

September 26, 2006:

I joined another band that plays dark, complicated stuff because Chick Maggot is more or less done. There is one little surprise in the works, though. More news on the surprise will take months...maybe a year to pop up.

July 13, 2006:

Remember that video project that those COSY kids did for us? Well, I stuck the links up in the 'mp3' section of the web site.

Also, don't count on seeing us play a show any time soon.

Also, I'll think about fixing the guestbook in the near future.

March 31, 2006:

Hello! Uh...so we'll be playing the Carnival of Shrieking Youth again this year AND there's going to be a music video made as part of the festival's film/video thingy. This should be amusing.

We might also play at a school. This would also be very, very amusing.

Um...yeah. I suppose we should see if any of those out-of-town show offers are still on the table. Hah. Peace, love, stuff.

Lex from My Own Superhero asked us to play a Food Not Bombs benefit In November at McKernan Hall. Check SHOWS for some details.

Note: SCOTT will be playing bass this show!!!!!

Also, rUckUs is dead...so the only way to get our new CD in Edmonton is through CJSR FUNDRIVE.

AND...if you're in the states and you want our CD, I'll kindly ask that you get it through Plan-It-X Records from now on to save us some shipping costs. You'll probably have to pay them a bit to handle their expenses. Rest assured that Chick Maggot will not see a penny of this! - Roy

August 07, 2005:

On March 24th, Chick Maggot is opening for MoreBadNews with Hellthrasher or Hellhammer or Self-Ruul or Death Hammer or something.

December 04, 2004:

Scott and Ted are busy playing with bass-cases, so I'll have to do this.

The big show is tonight at The Shark Tank (10249 97 ST). We are playing with Inverness, xBrother VoodooX, Uncle Outrage, and Train to Hawaii!!

It's $0 for Shark Tank members, $1 for non-members. Our new CD will be given away for free (I think we have a couple hundred left). Donations will be taken for MADD

I've been quoted as saying everyone can meet at my place and to email me if you want to. I might have been kidding (I just wanted an excuse to say "we'll have a great big convoy rockin' all the way to The Shark Tank") but it's not a bad idea. You can email me or anyone in the bands to try and arrange for a convoy/rides/whatever.
- Roy

November 25, 2004:

The CD has arrived!
Contact any of us if you want a copy.
Contact any of us (or anyone in Brother Voodoo or Uncle Outrage) if you think you should have been invited to the private CD release party on Saturday.
Contact any of us if you need info on The Shark Tank show December 4th (free for members, $1 for non-members, donations taken for MADD and...we'll be playing with Brother Voodoo, Uncle Outrage and Inverness...maybe one more).
Scott should be posting some info on radio airplay and bass cases soon. Ted should be posting some info on his quest to get the free Chick Maggot T-Shirt project off the ground.

FREE THE MUSIC!
- Roy

November 19, 2004:

The "official" "CD Release" will be ~7PM December 4th at The Shark Tank (10249 97 ST, you can come with us if you don't want to have to look for it, just email us or something).

Anyway, like most Chick Maggot shows, this show will be free (for Shark Tank Members, $1 for membership) and there will be donations taken for...MADD or...the food bank...or the SPCA or something. We're playing with Brother Voodoo and probably Instapunks and Inverness or something!
- Roy

November 16, 2004:

Hello. If you are reading this, you are probably a press person, a special person, or a crazy person that looks for Chick Maggot news updates regularly. For being one of these, your reward is getting first listening rights to the new record!!! The actual discs will be in our hands right away.

If you haven't been invited to the private CD release party (November 27th) yet and you think you should have been, contact someone in one of the bands (us, Uncle Outrage or Brother Voodoo)!
- Roy

November 11, 2004:

Shit! I look like a dumbass now, well only more so now. Anyway, we've just given the thumbs up on the final master by Chris. I have to admit, at the beginning of this whole process I didn't give mastering much credit. However, Chris has won me over with the amazing work he has done on this project. By the power of Grayskull, Chris has the power!!
- Scott

November 11, 2004:

What are you talking about?
- Scott

October 30, 2004:

This morning, Bryan gave us the first mix-down of X. It's almost perfect, so...yeah... we're all excited and stuff. I guess this means that the CD is almost here.
- Roy

October 20, 2004:

Chick Maggot has finished up recording Keeping the X in Xmas (an EP CD of 6 Winter tunes) with Bryan Kulba in the matador room at Kobot Labs.
